The second reference case describes a project carried out for a large national telecommunications operator, as part of the “Connected School” (Escola Conectada) program, aimed at expanding internet access in public educational institutions across Brazil.
The challenge involved deploying a new Zabbix monitoring infrastructure that was modern, scalable and resilient, capable of supervising hundreds of schools connected via optical and wireless networks.
Challenges and Objectives
The project aimed to provide unified, intelligent monitoring of the access points installed in the schools, ensuring the quality, latency and availability of the connectivity services.
It was essential that the solution be flexible, expandable and quick to implement, given the program’s national rollout schedule and the large volume of telemetry data and network indicators.
The main objectives were:
- Deploy a centralized Zabbix platform with a modular, scalable architecture;
- Integrate monitoring with Datacom systems (via SNMP and the WLC API);
- Provide dashboards and APIs to track performance and support the operator’s operational management;
- Ensure resilience, automation and ease of expansion for future phases of the project.
Implemented Solution
Target Solutions proposed and deployed a state-of-the-art Zabbix platform, built on a modern architecture of containers orchestrated by Kubernetes, logically separating the Zabbix Server, Proxy, Database and Frontend components.
The project involved:
- Physical and logical installation of the servers in powered racks in the operator’s data centers;
- Deployment of four Dell PowerEdge R450xs servers, configured redundantly to ensure high availability and room for expansion;
- Initial configuration of a Zabbix proxy, responsible for the first batch of 150 to 300 schools, with new proxies planned as the monitored base grows;
- Full integration with the Datacom (WLC) API to collect availability, latency and performance metrics of the Wi-Fi network;
- Exposure of the collected data via the Zabbix API, enabling integration with corporate systems and analytics tools;
- Optional deployment of Grafana dashboards, integrated via the Zabbix-Grafana plugin, offering management and operational views;
- 8×5 technical support service, including fine-tuning and maintenance of the environment, provided by Target Solutions.
The project also included pre-configuration in the lab (infrastructure as code) before the servers were delivered, which allowed immediate activation after physical installation at the operator’s sites.
Results and Benefits
The deployment resulted in a robust, automated platform ready for nationwide expansion, bringing tangible benefits to the operator:
- Continuous, proactive monitoring of hundreds of connected schools;
- Shorter response time to network incidents, with automatic alerts and real-time performance data;
- Better visibility and operational control, through consolidated dashboards and reports;
- A scalable architecture that allows new groups of schools to be added quickly with no impact on existing systems;
- Integration with the operator’s operations and maintenance processes, strengthening technical governance and the sustainability of the environment.
The solution became a strategic pillar of the Connected School program, ensuring high availability, quality of service and operational efficiency in managing educational connectivity at scale.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is AIOps?
AIOps, or Artificial Intelligence for IT Operations, is a technology that uses machine learning and big data to improve IT operations. It gathers data from multiple devices on a network and analyzes it in real time using machine learning models trained to identify specific problems and predict potential issues before they arise.
How does AIOps work?
AIOps works by ingesting large volumes of data from IT assets — such as logs, metrics and network traffic — and then applying machine learning algorithms to analyze that data in real time. AIOps systems recognize patterns, detect anomalies and correlate events across the infrastructure to identify problems and predict potential failures before they affect end users.
What is the IAOps tool?
IAOps is a complete automation platform that, through the use and implementation of AIOps technology, offers the following characteristics:
- An integrated platform that simplifies operations;
- Automatic problem detection and resolution;
- Less dependence on multiple tools;
What are the main features of IAOps?
With automation as its main focus, IAOps provides key features such as:
- Intelligent automation: proactive detection of incidents before they impact operations (integration);
- Event correlation: real-time analysis to reduce false positives and duplicate alerts (noise reduction);
- Unified dashboard: centralized monitoring with predictive insights and full visibility;
What are the benefits of using IAOps?
The IT department of any large company today faces complex management and operations challenges, given how much each company's service delivery depends on IT infrastructure to reach its customers, and given the growth and heterogeneity of that infrastructure's components, for example:
- Explosion of monitoring tools: operations overloaded with multiple tools generating alerts, making centralized management difficult;
- Dependence on proprietary vendors: proprietary solutions create exit barriers, making migrations and innovation harder;
- Too many alerts and false positives: a high volume of irrelevant alerts increases the workload and distracts teams from critical incidents.
- Reactive problem resolution: teams are stuck in a reactive operations model, where incidents are only resolved after significant impact.
IAOps provides an intelligent monitoring platform that consolidates multiple sources of information and alarms, delivering higher performance in identifying and resolving incidents, increasing the efficiency of monitoring and managing IT and network infrastructure, reducing problem resolution time and increasing service availability — and, as a result, the satisfaction of customers and end users.
How can a small service provider benefit from adopting IAOps?
A small service provider, or ISP, faces growing complexity due to its own network infrastructure and to operations and monitoring systems that keep getting larger, the result of diverse platforms and vendors, legacy systems and so on.
Below are just a few examples of problems that the IAOps platform can solve better for a small service provider, or ISP:
- Lack of integrated visibility: the difficulty of unifying data from different systems prevents a clear view of the infrastructure, hurting the ability to anticipate problems;
- High costs of manual intervention: the need for constant monitoring and manual problem resolution increases operating costs;
- SLA compliance and penalties: significant penalties for failing to meet SLAs, caused by delays in detecting and resolving incidents.
With that, IAOps enables benefits such as:
- Shorter problem resolution time;
- Higher service availability;
- Better end-customer satisfaction;
- Lower subscriber loss (churn);
- Lower operating costs;
What practical operational results can I achieve with the IAOps platform?
IAOps enables benefits such as:
- Lower mean time to detect (MTTD): fast, real-time problem detection, reducing reaction time before impact;
- Lower mean time to resolve (MTTR): automated fixes, allowing incidents to be resolved faster and improving SLAs;
- Automation of repetitive processes: routine tasks are automated, freeing the team to focus on strategic activities.
- Fewer false positives: intelligent alert filtering, reducing unnecessary alerts and focusing on critical problems.

What is an IAOps Crawler?
The Crawler is the solution component that lets IAOps interact with the other third-party systems and tools involved in operating the customer's network.
What kinds of tools and systems can be added to IAOps to improve network and IT operations?
A variety of monitoring, inventory and information-processing tools can be integrated through Crawlers to help increase the solution's efficiency: observability tools, fault management and ticketing, communication, IT service management (ITSM), CRM, inventory, etc.
